Field Survey
(40 min, IL/PL 2016)
A Film by Konrad Smolenski & Noa Shadur
Produced by the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw,
Warsaw 2016
The Israeli-Polish duo invited a group of choreographs and dancers to collaborate, including Aneta Jankowska, Przemek Kamiński, Agnieszka Kryst, Magda Ptasznik, Łukasz Przytarski and Katarzyna Sitarz. The choreography of the film, made in underground-hidden spaces and hardly accessible areas, was inspired by archival or restaged photographs of historical crime scenes and places of struggles. They were selected by Shadur and Smoleński as visual props for working with the body. The artists’ intention was to discuss acts of violence at a universal level, rather than referring to specific crimes or cases of resistance whose traces they found in the urban tissue of Warsaw.
